Reminder – Annual Backflow Prevention & Sprinkler Inspections Begin Nov 5 | Sign & Return Form

Dear Homeowners,

We’d like to remind you annual backflow preventer and sprinkler inspections will begin the week of Monday, November 5.

Before inspections begin on November 5, we will need the following from you:

  1. DUC Indemnity and Hold Harmless Agreement: For those of you who have signed and returned the required agreement, thank you for your cooperation. For those of you who have not, please read, sign, and return the DUC Indemnity and Hold Harmless Agreement to me at catherine@deweesislandsc.com ASAP. We will need to receive the agreement before International Fire Protection, Inc. (IFP) can proceed with the inspections.
  2. Keys:  A member from the Utility Staff or Public Safety will be with the IFP team while they conduct the inspections in your home. If you would like to be present during the time of the inspection, please let me know and she will coordinate a date and time. If you will not be on the island during the week of inspections, please be sure that the POA has a key at the Public Works office to have access your home.
  3. Alarm Company Information:  During the sprinkler test, an alarm will be triggered.  If you are not planning to be present at your residence, our Public Safety staff will need to know the alarm code in advance in order to reset your alarm.  When an alarm is triggered, you should also receive a call from your monitoring company.  We ask that you DO NOT “cancel” the alarm.  Our Public Safety will be coordinating these inspections with Charleston County 911 dispatch so that we can verify the alarm signal is going through to Charleston County.

As mentioned, International Fire Protection, Inc. will conduct the annual inspections and will cost  $135.00 per home.  Please know that you are not obligated in any way to use IFP — neither for the sprinkler inspection, nor for any required repairs. If you prefer to use a different company, and you do not want to have IFP perform the required inspection, you must provide the DUC/POA with a signed copy of the owner’s opt out form AND provide the DUC/POA a complete copy of the inspection report from a certified vendor before November 5.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
