Memories of Christmas Eve on Dewees
One of our favorite memories is of returning to Dewees one Christmas Eve several years ago. After attending Mass at Stella Maris Church with all the beautiful Christmas hymns we drove through Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms with all the bright lights and decorations (especially the Sullivan’s Island firehouse!!) The ride on the ferry was filled with laughter and greeting late arriving family and friends. We walked to our cart and the enchantment began. We had left behind the artificial lights and were delightfully surrounded by the awesome display of stars that brisk, clear night. We drove the back way through the woods and were surprised by the deer jumping and running before us. We drove home in silence, immersed in the simple beauty of the island, a real Silent Night…..if you are lucky enough to be on the island during this holiday season I hope you will make your memories, too.
