My name is Olivia Bueno, and I help coordinate large outreach and volunteer events for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). I’m reaching out to let you know about our new Certified SCDNR Fishing Instructor Program, based here in Charleston, South Carolina.

This is a volunteer-based fishing instructor program where volunteers become “Certified SCDNR Fishing Instructors” after completing a free instructor training course and then lead family fishing clinics around the Lowcountry.

The SCDNR program offers:

  • A curriculum that is hands-on and fun for participants
  • Trainings and tools that equip volunteers to be successful as fishing instructors
  • Network of fellow instructors and resources

SCDNR will provide all of the tackle and training materials needed for each clinic; in return we ask each certified fishing instructor to lead/co-lead at least two family fishing clinics a year.

We are looking for volunteers who:

  • Have a desire to share their passion for fishing and the outdoors with young people
  • Enjoy teaching and working with children
  • Have a flexible schedule

If you or anybody in your community is interested in this program, please complete this application and email it back to me at BuenoO@dnr.sc.gov.

Once we have enough interested volunteers, we will send out a separate email with more information about the program and upcoming instructor training class.

If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to email me or call my office number at (843) 953-9809.

Thank you and I hope to hear from some of you!

Happy fishing,
