Eclipse Weekend – Dewees Island Lot Access I.D.’s

Dear Dewees Owners,

The staff has been working hard to anticipate the needs of the community for the Eclipse Weekend.  For this busy time, we have several suggestions for limiting the number of vehicles in the Dewees Island marina lot. Your cooperation is needed, and greatly appreciated! Common questions and concerns regarding parking and ferry transportation are addressed below. Please read thoroughly.

Standard ferry procedures are in effect for the week of the Eclipse. You do not need reservations from the mainland. Departing the island you must call for a ferry @ 45 minutes before pick up, as usual.
Pack light, bring only essentials, please! Do pack your patience! Our goal is to make our trips to and from the island as comfortably as possible.

The POA is providing one Dewees Island Lot Access ID per lot to those who have RSVP’d for the Eclipse weekend.
The access ID’s do NOT guarantee any one person, family, owner, or guest a parking spot. They will help us identify cars that should not be entering our lot in an unauthorized attempt to park.

The ID’s are to encourage all of us to work together as a community to minimize parking. We are asking for voluntary compliance to make room for each other. Owners are encouraged to lead by example by removing any nonessential vehicles out of the lot. Should you have local friends and relatives in the Charleston area, consider asking to use their driveways for parking, use public parking garages, carpool with family and guest and Uber rides.

We will have Monitors in the Parking Lot on Thursday through Sunday.  You have told us that Thursday and Friday will be the heaviest travel days. Having your ID readily available for the attendant to check at the front of the lot will help with traffic flow. Should there be unfilled parking spaces, they will be on a first come, first served basis.

*If you are planning to come on Monday for a day trip, please consider alternative options for parking as our lot is likely to be full.

Others have mentioned the idea of using the back row for blocking in vehicles that are not needed for the weekend. ALL paths in the lot MUST be cleared for an ambulance and emergency vehicles to have access. This also includes clearing the pathway to the boat ramp for emergency vessels.

               ●   Lot Access IDs were mailed to part-time residents earlier this week. Check your mailboxes for a standard white envelope from the POA!

               ●   Full-time residents can pick up passes at the Public Works Office Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
               ●   Have your Lot Access ID ready when you arrive to the lot for the attendant to check.

               ●   Once you park, leave your ID on your dashboard face up, making sure your Lot # and your Cell Number is legibly filled out on the pass.

Again, we want everyone to have a safe and pleasant experience on the island for the Eclipse event. We appreciate all of your efforts to help us accommodate the community with the resources we have.

Stay tuned for more updates!
