Dewees Island Welcomes Public Safety Officer Lauren Cook

Dewees Island welcomes our newest POA staff member, Lauren Cook. Lauren is originally from Fairfax County, VA. She started out as a Fire Explorer for Fairfax County Fire Rescue in high school. She moved to Charleston to attend Charleston Southern University for Athletic Training, but ultimately went back to her passion and joined C&B Volunteer Fire Department in Ladson, SC. She completed all the required fire academy classes at C&B and served the local community there for about 4 years.

Before the end of her time at CBFD, she obtained a full time firefighter position for Awendaw McClellanville Fire Department. Lauren also began working part time for Goose Creek Rural Fire Department right before Christmas of 2018.

She has always had a love of nature and historical places. “Growing up right outside of DC I was able to experience a lot of history but being in Charleston there is a ton of beautiful scenery and wildlife but also history and architecture everywhere you look. Dewees Island is a beautiful combination of it all and I look forward to learning all I can about the island and wildlife while serving the community!”

Aside from being a firefighter, Lauren spends her time crafting, gardening, renovating projects on her house and spending time with her fiancé and their pets. Her fiancé is a deputy for Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. Together they have 3 dogs, a cat, 2 leopard geckos, and an aquarium! Lauren also serves on the board for the Friends of Berkeley Animal Center group working to help the animals of Berkeley County.

Please give Lauren a warm welcome when you see her around the island!
