Dewees Island Welcomes New Ferry Staff Member

Please welcome our newest ferry staff member, Kirk Gunn.

Kirk grew up sailing the coast of New England on his parents Little Harbor 36 and has done multiple offshore trips to Bermuda. In the late 70s, he crewed aboard TeVega, a 156 ft gaff-rigged schooner as it traveled from Denmark to Monaco.   Moving to Annapolis, MD in 1989, he quickly discovered Annapolis and raced aboard Olson 30s, Melges 24s and J/30s.  Kirk and his family owned a Tartan sailboat which they frequently cruised the Chesapeake and participated in local regattas.    In 2017, Kirk and his family relocated to Charleston/Folly Beach where he still sails competitively and is a member of the Charleston Offshore Racing Association (CORA)

Professionally, Kirk is a semi-retired Sr Technical Director with IBM’s Cloud Services Group.   His wife, Jan, is a retired flight attendant for American Airlines and daughter Kelly works for the School of Education at the College of Charleston.
