Dewees Island is excited to have Kathryn Heyward aboard as our newest deckhand.
Born and raised in Mount Pleasant, in middle school Kathryn moved to Paradise Island in Awendaw, where her family lived on the Wando River. She said she could not imagine growing up any other way then going out on the boat everyday after school.
Kathryn worked with children for over ten years before she had the opportunity to manage a surf boutique downtown, Channels of Charleston. After they closed she had the pleasure to work as a sales associate at Parrot Surf Shop before being a personal assistant for Steve Palmer, owner of Indigo Road Restaurant Group.
In Kathryn’s free time, she enjoys fishing, scuba diving, surfing, and exploring new places in the Lowcountry; which is why she is very excited to start as a mate on the Dewee’s Ferry. Kathryn stated, “I’ve ridden by Dewee’s a thousand times and look forward to learning the history of the island!”
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Kathryn when you see her on the ferries!
