Dewees Island Hurricane Preparedness Plan

June 1, 2019

Dear Dewees Island Property Owners,

We are hopeful we will have a peaceful season this year, but we must always be prepared as we enter the hurricane season, which began June 1.

Each year, Dewees Island POA Inc. and Dewees Utility Corporation update their Disaster Preparedness Plan for the hurricane season. It is very important for you and your families to review the plan and develop your own hurricane preparation and readiness plan. Although this is not meant to be a complete list of things you should do, it will certainly help you with the basics.

Review the Disaster Preparedness Plan and Evacuation Route

The Dewees Disaster Preparedness Plan reflects the Storm Alert levels of Charleston County. If an evacuation notice is issued, Dewees will need to evacuate early to allow time for us to synchronize with the Emergency Plans of the County. It is important for you to familiarize yourself with the County’s evacuation routes and plan accordingly.

Update Your Contact Information with the POA

In the event of a hurricane, we will send email notifications and updates to alert residents and guests on the Island. We will contact the email addresses from the Dewees Island POA website Owner Address Book, so please make sure you have ALL current contact information noted in the Address Book. If you need to update your contact information with the POA, please contact me at catherine@deweesislandsc.com

Arrange for a Contractor to Prepare Your Home in Advance

When Charleston County is at alert level OPCON 4, you will need to prepare and secure homes and property for a hurricane. To protect your property from a potential hurricane, arrange for someone now to help if you are unable to attend to your home during hurricane season.

Register Vehicle for Re-Entry Passes

Register now for IOP re-entry passes. Passes are available at IOP City Hall, 30 J.C. Long Boulevard, Isle of Palms SC, 29451, 843-886-6522, throughout the year. Decals will not be issued within eighteen (18) hours of landfall. You must get new decals every five (5) years. Previous decals will be void.

Again, please be sure to take the time to review the Disaster Preparedness Plan with your family members.
