Eclipse Weekend Guide

Good afternoon Dewees Owners,

We want to continue to involve you in our preparations for the Eclipse weekend and want to share this link from the Post and Courier that reports a million visitors are expected in South Carolina for the upcoming eclipse!

The POA is preparing for the influx of visitors, and you can certainly be a big help as we plan.

Here’s How YOU Can Help:

BE AWARE & BRING YOUR PATIENCE!

Although this rare event is very exciting and highly anticipated, we do want you to consider the inconvenience you may experience when traveling to Charleston and to Dewees, such as traffic, minimal parking, and full ferries.

                ●             Data from our surveys show that 500 people will be visiting Dewees between Thursday – Monday.

                ●             Over 170 owners, guests, and paying guests will be arriving on Thursday, and another 170 or so on Friday.

                ●             Monday evening and Tuesday morning show similar trends with departures.

To accommodate the influx of passengers, please note the following:

FERRY SCHEDULE CHANGES:

                ●             1:00 p.m. runs on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday.

●             There will be NO 2:00 p.m. run on Monday.

*Plan to arrive early for ferries to account for IOP traffic.

MAKE ROOM! PARKING IS LIMITED.

To help identify authorized vehicles in our parking lot during Eclipse week, we will be distributing parking access tags.

                ●             ONE parking access tag per lot who has RSVP’d will be distributed. Note, the parking access tags DO NOT guarantee you a parking space, it just allows you access to our lot for parking if space is available.

*Parking tags will be mailed to lot owners who RSVPD’d next week. Catherine will be sending a follow up email with more information.

                ●             Please move vehicles that are not primary vehicles out of the lot, or at least to the BACK of the lot to make room for owners visiting the island.

                ●              CARPOOL, CARPOOL, CARPOOL! UBER!

MOVE GOLF CARTS

Golf carts that are parked at the Landings dock or Landings Building that are not regularly used need to be removed away from the common areas.

PACK LIGHT AND CAREFULLY!

Space on the ferry will be extremely tight and limited while traveling that week. Please, please, please pack light. Hand held carry-ons are encouraged. For those of you that live on the island full time, plan ahead and fill your house and fridge before we hit crunch time.

STAY SAFE FROM THE SUN WITH PROPER ECLIPSE GLASSES!

                ●          Glasses purchase from Lori are from either Rainbow Symphony or American Paper Optics; both companies are listed as reputable vendors by NASA & the American Astronomical Society.
                ●          If you purchase your own please make sure they meet the current eye safety standard of SO 12312-2
                ●          Please store your eclipse glasses so they do not get scratched or bent.
                ●          If you plan on using a camera, binoculars or telescope make sure they have the proper safety equipment installed.
                ●          It is only safe to look at the sun without eye protection during the 2 minutes of totality; not all areas of the US will be in the path of totality.
                ●          Supervise children at all times to ensure their eyes are protected during the eclipse.
